Used to shovel dirt? Snow? Grain? Sh--, Guess again!
Who needs a shovel that won’ hold anything? This shovel was invented and manufactured in the USA by ingenious metal workers and wood craftsman in late 1800s through early 30s.
During this period many homes were heated by anthracite coal and just as it is today, fuel was a major financial outlay.
Coal stoves and furnaces all had “grates” which had to be “shaken,” to dump the ash into a lower receiver. Chunks of unburned coal also fell through. This shovel allowed the homeowner to rescue the valuable unburned anthracite to be “reburned.”
The “Coal Sifter” paid for itself over and over! Creative artisans and craftsmen have provided many of the vintage and antique tools and implements that many collectors cherish.
